Ribbon and electrostatic speakers are elegant and simple.
The air is moved and sound waves are created by moving an ultra-light film or aluminum ribbon. Ultra-low mass enables the ribbon to respond quickly to the electrical signal from the amplifier. What you hear is higher definition.

"Wow!"

Mcleans LRS Customer Review - by Lee H.

"I am an avid listener of finely recorded music, and therefore I need a stereo system that can accurately reproduce what the musicians and engineers passionately record. Over the decades, I’ve owned some excellent speakers, but these Magnaplanars stand out from the crowd with their transparent, clear, accurate and, most importantly, pleasing sound…and great looks.

And boy can they fill a large room with pristine tone, capturing all the nuances of a great recording. Take, for example, Ricky Lee Jones’s Pop Pop classic album: a masterpiece of simplicity and sonic purity. This was the first album I tried out on these speakers, and one wonders immediately why they call these “Little”. Highly recommended." (Thanks Lee!)

Magnepan has been manufacturing innovative, world class stereo speakers for 47 years. Jim Winey, the inventor of the Magneplanar loudspeaker, first owned electrostatic loudspeakers and began experimenting to design an improved electrostatic speaker. In 1969, Jim invented the Magneplanar, a thin-film magnetic equivalent to the electrostat and founded Magnepan. Corporate and manufacturing facilities are located in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, a small community north of the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Having outgrown its original facilities, Magnepan’s current plant is over 50,000 square feet in addition to corporate and engineering offices. To date, over 200,000 pairs of Magneplanar loudspeakers have found their way into the homes of music lovers the world over. Magneplanars are American-made with virtually all American parts. And we are proud to say— “Made in America. Sold in China.”
